LVHA has selected experienced volleyball coaches from around the county. Many of our coaches have played on the college level and have years of coaching experience.
Sloane started her volleyball career at Pelham Memorial High School and continued to play for Nazareth College. While obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she coached for Volley FX in Rochester, New York. Shortly after graduation, she returned to Pelham where she and Mark Finegan began Lower Hudson Volleyball Association in 2007. Sloane was also an assistant coach for Pelham Varsity Volleyball from 2007-2012, where she helped lead her team to the State Championship in 2011 and 2012. She is currently the JV volleyball coach at Tuckahoe High School. As the club now begins its ninth year, she is excited to continue to provide opportunities for girls to accelerate their volleyball skills.
Mark Finegan has been coaching volleyball for 25 years. From 1990-2000, he coached the varsity volleyball team at New Rochelle HS and then began at Pelham HS where he is still the head coach. While coaching high school volleyball, he led his team to 12 League Champions, 2 Section 1 Champions, 2 Regional Champions and 2 State Final Fours in 2011 and 2012. Amazingly, he has been the Section 1 Coach of the Year 9 times. Since 1996, he has also been a physical education teacher at Pelham Memorial High School. Additionally, in 1998, he started coaching boys varsity basketball at Pelham. In 2007, he and Sloane Dill began Lower Hudson Volleyball Association. Today, he continues to show the love of the sport by dedicating his time to the game year round. He looks forward to another successful season with LHVA!
16 Travel Head Coach
Geygy has been coaching volleyball for six years. She has coached different age groups ranging from 15s to 17s. Most recently, while coaching our 17s Travel team, she led her team to a couple of tournament championship wins and finished the season with a Regional Championship title. This past fall, Geygy took on the role of JV coach at White Plains where she also teaches Third Grade. In addition to working with high school aged athletes, Geygy has co-directed a volleyball clinic for young elementary and middle school students in lower Westchester. This is going to be Geygy's seventh season with LHVA and she is looking forward to developing new relationships with her athletes while helping them achieve their personal volleyball goals.
16 Travel Assistant Coach
Gabriella Brown is a former Pelham Memorial High School alumni. Gabriella played as a outside and middle hitter on the varsity volleyball team at Pelham. She also played for LHVA for 2 consecutive seasons. After graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 2011, Gabriella attended State University of New York at Brockport where she obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing on May, 2015. This is the first season that Gabriella will be coaching for LHVA, and is looking forward to a wonderful successful season!
16 Travel Assistant Coach
As a new coach for LHVA, Deanna is very excited to be coaching her first team. She is a PMHS 2010 graduate and attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and is now working in the Financial District of New York City. She played on JV and Varsity Volleyball for PMHS and is also an alumni of LHVA. While attending college, she played recreational and club volleyball as well.
17s Regional Coach
Elizabeth has been playing volleyball since middle school and her love for the sport is what keeps her playing today. She attended New Rochelle high school and graduated in 2006. She was captain for 2 years and played defensive specialist for the girls varsity volleyball team. She plays all year around in different leagues from indoor to outdoor, grass and beach. In her spare time, she is playing volleyball whenever she can. This past season, Liz joined Mark Finegan as the assistant coach for the Pelham varsity volleyball team. This is her third year coaching for LHVA and she is very excited to teach and improve some new skills for the upcoming season.
16 Regional Assistant Coach
Karina played for the Pelham Memorial High School volleyball team during her high school career. She also played for LHVA for three years. They were all amazing experiences and volleyball is a passion of hers. She dedicates a lot of her time to the sport and is grateful to be able to give back to the volleyball community. She still continues to play volleyball at Manhattanville College. This will be her second year coaching for LHVA and she can’t wait to be able to see these girls grow in there technique, but also there love for the sport like she has.
15 Regional Head Coach
Michael McGovern currently teaches Physical Education in the Mount Vernon School District in Westchester, New York. Michael attended SUNY Cortland where he had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for other Physical Educators taking volleyball. In 2013, Michael coached JV Volleyball for the Nyack Indians. After landing a job in Westchester County in 2014, Michael was fortunate enough to land the JV volleyball coaching position in the Tuckahoe School District at Tuckahoe High School. In 2015, Michael became the Varsity volleyball coach for the Tuckahoe Tigers. Michael is excited to share his love for volleyball with LHVA this season!
15 Regional Assistant Coach
Monica has been playing volleyball since middle school and is also a LHVA and Pelham Memorial school alum. She played as a libero/defensive specialist for the girls varsity volleyball team and her club team as well. This will be her first year coaching LHVA and she is looking forward to it. Volleyball has been a big part of her life and she hopes to pass on her love and knowledge of the sport to younger generations. Outside of volleyball, Monica attends graduate school and is studying to become an ESL teacher.
14 Regional Head Coach
Jessica grew up and played volleyball in Pelham. Shortly after graduating college, Jessica began coaching for LHVA; this will be her seventh season coaching for the program. In 2014, she coached the varsity volleyball team for Tuckahoe High School. Currently, Jessica is special education teacher, where she specializes in teaching autistic children grades K-2.
14 Regional Assistant Coach
This will be Christina's first year coaching LHVA. She graduated from PMHS in 2011, where she played volleyball for four years, and also played for LHVA for two years. Christina attended Fairfield University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Marketing with a Management minor, and is now working in Stamford, CT. Christina is very excited to coach her first team!
13 Regional Head Coach/ Co-Director
As well as acting co-director, Sloane has coached for LHVA for 9 years. In addition to coaching the 13s team each year, she also coached the 17s team for 5 years. In 2009, Sloane began the Developmental Program hosted by fellow co-director, Mark Finegan. Each year, Sloane devotes her time to ensure LHVA continues to be a great opportunity for female volleyball players.
13 Regional Assistant Coach
Maxine is a senior at Harrison High School where she has been a varsity starter for 4 years, and a captain for 2 years. She has been playing volleyball since middle school. She played club volleyball for 4 years and has attended the Girls Junior National Championships. Maxine has played as a middle blocker, outside hitter and setter. Maxine has helped run volleyball camps and clinics for younger athletes in the Harrison school district. This will be Maxine’s first year coaching for LHVA, and she is excited to share her knowledge and appreciation of the sport.
13 Regional Assistant Coach
Katie is a senior at Pelham Memorial High School and has played volleyball since freshman year. Being new and among more experienced players, she was determined to learn quickly so she could catch up to their level. She was always eager to learn more from her teammates. She played for LHVA for three years, playing on the 14's, 17's, and 17's Regional teams. She was designated Libero/Defensive Specialist for the Pelham Varsity Volleyball team and 17's teams. She has also helped in the developmental program that LHVA offers, where younger players learn basic volleyball skills. This will be her first time coaching and she is very eager to work with the 13s team! This sport has taught her so much about herself, and she can't wait to encourage and support these young girls and help them improve.
